June 2019 - September 2019
Background
As my first project right after graduation, I was part of the OYO x SoftBank US PropCo team that led the acquisition and rebranding of Hooters Casino Hotel Las Vegas to OYO Hotel and Casino Las Vegas as well as the acquisition of OYO Times Square Hotel (previously known as Night Hotel).
Responsibilities
Since the Las Vegas deal was my first out-of-college experience, I made sure to be present in most of the strategic discussions focused on
- Macro conditions, such as how the Vegas hospitality and gaming market has changed and is expected to change over the next 5-10 years.
- GMV distribution and growth, such as how the hotel’s casino GMV has grown over the last 5 years, and whether the hotels’ prices are competitive as compared to its competitors.
- Cost analysis and license renewals, such as what the management fee would be, what fraction of annual revenue is used for marketing, and when OYO has to apply for casino and liquor licenses.
- Operational decisions, such as what type of Hotel Management System (HMS) and Channel Management System (CMS) should be used.
Being part of these discussions helped me review and rebuild the base financial model from the ground up, the results of which were used internally while finalizing the deal.
Recognition
In addition to my full-time role, I help small businesses build their first set of products, including landing pages, dashboards, internal applications, and marketing automations. Reach out if you are looking for an active collaborator on your next project!
